고문헌 기록에서의 삼현육각(三絃六角)

Abstract

This paper is based on the existing research related to Samhyeon Yukgak, looking at government and private publications together with records of newspaper articles and magazines in the 1901s. As a result, we confirmed that the term Samhyeon was used in aide range of three strings, three strings in feast music, three strings in military music, three strings in rhythm, three strings in Japanese music, three strings in Japanese music and instruments, and six instruments in Japanese. Next, Yukgak was recorded as a word referring to a small army parade that included horseback and rider troops and played when the doors were opened and closed. The Se-ak is a band that played in court and private parties as part of the military. Such records show that the Se-ak has been used in combination with Samhyeon and Yukgak. Therefore, it is difficult to find the name Samhyeon Yukgak in the record until the latter part of the Joseon period. Some records of the late Joseon Dynasty suggest that the current form of music using six instruments was found in the content of ‘Yeonhyang Music with six musical instruments’ and thus may have been present in the late Joseon period. But the name was recorded and began to be used in newspaper and magazine articles in the 1920s, after the Joseon Dynasty.
