K-드라마 속 클래식 음악의 문화적 함의 - 드라마 <빈센조>를 중심으로

최근 한국의 영화와 드라마에서 클래식 음악이 사용되는 사례가 많아지고 있는 가운데, 드라마 <빈센조>는 영화에서의 클래식 음악의 사용, 그리고 과거 한국 드라마에서의 클래식 음악의 사용과는 다른, 클래식 음악의 새로운 사용방식을 보여주고 있다. 클래식 음악을 등장인물의 세계를 청각적으로 구별하는 수단으로 사용하며, 내러티브의 주요 지점들을 강화시키고, 다양한 상황과 정서적 변화에 대한 명확한 메시지를 던지는 음향으로 활용하고 있는 것이다. 이러한 K-드라마에서 클래식 음악의 사용 방식은 서양으로부터 유래한 클래식 음악의 한국적 수용과 현재적 생존방식을 보여주고 있다. 본고에서는 <빈센조>에서 드러나는 클래식 음악의 사용에 대해 분석적으로 살펴보면서 이러한 사용 양상이 드러내는 문화적 함의에 대하여 논한다.
Abstract
While classical music used in Korean movies and dramas is significantly increasing, the drama Vincenzo shows a distinctive example of current appropriation of classical music in K-contents. Contrary to the symbolic and metaphoric use of classical music in films, classical music in Vincenzo serves as a practical means audibly delineating the characters' world, strengthening key narrative points, and conveying indicative messages pertaining to diverse situational and emotional shifts. To this end, classical music in Vincenzo is strategically selected, fragmented and manipulated to create new and distinctive emotional variations in scenes, diverging from the original meanings that the classical pieces intended to communicate. Through an analysis of this way of using classical music in this K-drama, this paper traces the cultural implications of classical music used in a narrative screen media genre in South Korea, which shows Korea’s creative reception of classical music and its endurance in contemporary society.
