시리아 혁명과 참여 다큐멘터리: 디지털 영상의 제작과 전파를 통한 연대의 가능성

이 연구는 시리아 혁명과 내전을 다룬 다큐멘터리 영상들을 참여적인 영상으로 규정하고, 그러한 영상들의 등장 배경과 주요 특징을 살펴보려는 시도이다. 디지털과 인터넷을 중심으로 매체 환경이 변화하면서 대중들이 미디어 콘텐츠를 제작하거나 이용하는 과정에서 문화적 생산에 참여하고, 자신의 목소리를 내고, 정치적으로 개입할 수 있는 기회의 장이 열렸다. 시리아 혁명과 내전을 기록한 일련의 영상들은 혁명과 내전이라는 정치적 상황과 디지털 기술의 발달과 인터넷의 보급이라는 기술적 상황에 힘입어 만들어졌다. 그 영상들은 제작의 동기, 목적, 주체 등을 고려했을 때, 시민 참여적인 영상, 액티비즘 영상, 다큐멘터리 영화로 구분할 수 있다. 이 세 유형의 다큐멘터리 영상들은 제작 방식, 스타일, 서사에 있어서 몇 가지 분명한 차이점을 가지고 있지만, 혁명과 평화를 염원하는 시리아 인민들의 적극적인 참여와 협력을 통해서 만들었다는 공통점이 있다.
Abstract
The study defines documentary videos recording the Syrian Revolution and Syrian civil war as participatory videos and attempts to examine the main characteristics along with the background of the appearance of such videos. As the media environment has changed around digital and the Internet, there has been an opportunity for the public to participate in cultural production, to speech their own voice, to intervene politically in the process of producing or using media contents. A series of videos recording the Syrian Revolution and Syrian civil war were made on the back of the political situation of the revolution and civil war, and the technological situation of digital technology development and the spread of the Internet. The videos can be categorized into citizen-participatory videos, activism videos, and documentary films, considering the motivation, purpose, and subject of production. These three types of documentary videos have several obvious differences in process of producing, style, and narrative, but they are made through active participation and cooperation by the Syrian people who aspire to revolution and peace.
