본고는 김현탁의 연극에 나타난 유희적 웃음의 양상과 그의 신체성을 조명하였다. 이는 한편으로는 언어의 유희적 성격을, 다른 한편으로는 장면의 그로테스크와 카니발적 성격을 분석하는 과정이다. 이를 통해 한편으로는 언어의 유희를 통한 풍자 그리고 아이러니 등의 희극적 요소가 존재함을 파악하였고, 다른 한편으로는 이미지, 소리 및 신체의 장면화를 통한 그로테스크 및 카니발적 웃음의 양상이 존재함을 미학적으로 설명할 수 있었다. 본고는 지금까지 김현탁 연극의 미학이 웃음의 관점에서 연구되지 않은바, 그의 고전희곡의 해체적 본질이 웃음의 수행적 신체성에 있음을 조명하는데 기여할 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the manifestations of playful laughter and corporeality in Kim Hyun-tak’s theatre. Focusing on the ludic dimensions of language and the grotesque-carnivalesque qualities of stage scenes, the study reveals comic elements such as satire and irony arising from linguistic play, as well as aesthetic modes of grotesque and carnivalesque laughter produced through images, sounds, and bodily performance. By addressing laughter as a critical perspective, this study contributes to elucidating the deconstructive nature of Kim’s reinterpretations of classical drama, highlighting the performative corporeality of laughter as a central aspect of his theatrical aesthetics.
