어떤 용어로 말하든지 모던 사회의 양상이 많이 변하고 있다는 사실에 관해 학자들 간의 이견이 없다. 그리고 새로운 문화 현상이 일어나는 상황을 통칭하여 이머징 문화라고 이해한다. 이에 대한 기독교의 반응이 여기저기서 새로운 형태로 나오고 있다. 이러한 기독교의 반응들은 레즐리 뉴비긴이 제기한 서구 교회에 대한 신학적 반성과 아울러 실천적 대안 모색으로 이어진 결과였다. 이는 이머징 교회 만들기라고 이름을 붙일 만한 현상으로 나타나고 있다. 본고는 이런 현상을 구체적으로 설명하고 이전과는 다른 문화가 대두하는 현실에서 한국 교회가 지향해 가야 할 과제를 찾아보자고 촉구하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 이머징 문화와 세대의 특징을 알아보았고, 이런 문화 속에서 반응을 보이며 사역을 펼친 구체적인 예들을 통해서 이머징 교회의 면면을 살펴보았다. 이머징 교회 운동이라 일컫는 흐름 중에서 신학적 통찰을 새로이 하며 사도적 교회의 본질을 찾아 사명을 수행하는 미셔널 교회 만들기에 관한 묘사를 하였다. 끝으로 한국 사회에서도 그런 미셔널 교회 만들기의 실천이 필요한 이유를 제시하였다.
Abstract
There is a growing consensus among scholars that the modern society has been experiencing dramatic shifts. And we define these new cultural phenomena as emerging culture. A few responses from Christianity, recognizing the urgency of the situation, are presented. The responses are the results from the theological reflection proposed by Lessile Newbigin, which led to the search for the practical alternatives. This phenomenon can be named as “the Making of the Missional Chruch.” This paper is to illustrate the notions of “the Making of the Missional Chruch” in details and make a challenge to find out the direction for Korean Churches to pursue in the midst of cultural transition. The characteristics of emerging culture and generation are examined for this purpose. Some features of emerging churches are also discussed by looking several individual churches that do respond to emerging culture and create their own specific church practices. Moreover, this paper tries to map out the Emerging Church Movement in theological terms and describes the process of the making of the Missional church that takes a powerful act based on discipleship essentials. The last and optimal objective of this paper is to highlight the need for the Making of the Missional churches in Korean society.
