Abstract

This study aims to develop and implement an educational program for a digital sprout camp to enhance the digital literacy of elementary and secondary school students, expand access to software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI) education, and analyze its effectiveness while providing insights for the development of future programs. Researchers formulated a 36-session curriculum using expert reviews, incorporating onsite and collective learning formats. The program was implemented on a total of 1,657 students: 1,443 in an onsite camp (elementary: 490, middle: 100, and high school: 210) and 214 elementary students in a collective camp. Effectiveness was evaluated through a survey conducted on 52 instructors and lecturers who participated in program implementation, to assess learning effectiveness, appropriateness of program content and instructional materials, and overall operation of the program. Additionally, focus group interviews with 49 elementary and secondary students who participated in the program to collect feedback on satisfaction with the program, changes in perception before and after participation, and willingness to continue with digital education. The results indicated that the program was highly effective with a well-structured content and a smooth operation. Data from focus group interviews revealed high levels of satisfaction, along with interest in digital education, perceived usefulness of lessons, and strong instructor–student and peer interactions. Participants also reported improved perception of digital technology and strong motivations for continued learning. The study further explored the factors influencing satisfaction and strategies to enhance learning motivation. These findings provide valuable insights for developing effective SW·AI education programs for elementary and secondary students.
