『견월첩』은 다산 정약용과 혜장 스님 사이에 주고받은 시문과 편지를 다산이 친필로 정리한 서첩이다. 두 종류의 『견월첩』이 존재하는데 하나는 다산이 혜장에게 준 시와 편지를 모았고, 다른 하나는 혜장이 다산에게 준 편지를 모은 것이다. 이 중에는 두 사람의 문집에도 빠진 글이 실려 있어, 자료적 가치가 높다. 다산은 강진에 귀양온 후, 주막집의 방 하나를 얻어 어렵게 지내다가 혜장 스님과 만나면서 비로소 정신적 안정을 찾게 되었다. 혜장은 다산을 위해 고성사란 암자에 공간을 내 주었고, 이곳에서 다산은 한 동안 머물며 『주역』공부에 몰두할 수 있었다. 두 사람의 교유상이 바로 이 두 종류의 『견월첩』속에 오롯이 남아 있어, 유배 초기 다산의 생활상과 승려와의 교유상을 파악할 수 있게 해준다. 다만 일반적으로 두 종류 모두 다산의 친필 글씨로 알려진 것과는 달리, 실제 검토해 보니, 혜장의 편지를 적은 『견월첩』은 다산의 친필이 아니라 다산의 아들 정학연의 글씨임을 확인할 수 있었다. 다산은 대둔사로 가려는 혜장을 못가게 붙들기도 하고, 두 사람의 공통 관심사인 『주역』을 사이에 두고 활발한 토론도 벌였다. 또 다산은 혜장에게 시 짓기를 권하기도 했다. 두 사람은 마음을 나눈 벗이 되어, 서로를 아끼고 위해 주었다. 두 가지 『견월첩』을 통해 이 시기 다산의 구체적인 생활상을 더 자세히 알게 된 것이 큰 의미가 있다.
Abstract
Gyeonnwalchup is a scrapbook of edited poems and letters that Dasan Jung Yakyong exchanged with a buddhist priest Hyejang. This book has two volumes. One volume contains poems and letters from Dasan to Hyejang. The other volume contains poems and letters from Hyejang to Dasan. Works which aren't in their collections is in the scrapbook, so it is considered as a valuable material. After Dasan went into exile to Gangjin, he had a hard time in a room of public house. He became stabilized by encountering with Hyejang. Hyejang introduced a small buddhist temple Gosungsa to Dasan, Dasan totally gave himself up to study on Juyeok for quite a time in Gosungsa. Aspects of friendship between Dasan and Hyejang were described in Gyeonwalchup, we can catch hold of Dasan's life during early exile and friendship with a buddhist priest. These two volumes of Gyeonwalchup are generally well-known for Dasan's handwriting, but according to the results on investigation, we could learned that one of the volumes which contains letters of Hyejang was edited by Dasan's son Jung Hakyeon. Dasan stopped Hyejang from leaving to Daedunsa, and shared lively arguments on Juyouk which was a common interest of these two. He also recommended Hyejang to write poems. These two men became good friends and cherished each other. It is meaningful that we learned more about Dasan's concrete life during early exile through the two volumes of Gyeonwalchup.
