신문을 활용한 아랍어 읽기 능력 향상에 관한 연구

본 연구는 교재를 통한 강의식 수업이 학습자들의 흥미와학습동기를 약화시키는 부분이 있기에 학습의욕을 유발시키고아랍어에 대한 흥미와 참여도를 높여 읽기 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는방안으로 아랍어 신문 활용을 제안하고 실제로 적용시켜 본 후 그결과를 사전․사후 설문 조사와 시험 성적 결과로 비교, 분석해봄으로써 아랍어 신문 활용교육의 효과 및 의의를 찾아보고자하였다. 먼저 신문 활용 교육(NIE)의 목적과 필요성을 살펴보고 아랍어신문 활용 교육의 개요, 읽기 방법의 이론 및 효과적인 읽기 모형을제시하였고, 다양한 방식으로 재구성한 아랍어 신문을 실험반학습자들을 대상으로 12주간 실험 연구 수업을 실시하였다. 본연구의 실험 방법은 사전 설문조사를 통해 학습자들의 다양한관심과 흥미 분야를 미리 알아보고 이에 맞는 아랍어 신문 기사를발췌하여 개별적, 모둠별로 수업하여 읽기에 대한 동기유발과참여도를 높이려 하였다. 아랍어 신문 활용 수업의 효과를 알아보기위하여 실험 후 설문을 통하여 측정해 보았으며, 또한 실험 전․후의대학수학능력시험 모의평가 성적을 비교 분석하여 보고 아랍어 신문활용수업이 그 결과에 끼친 영향을 알아보았다. 첫째, 학습자들 대부분이 현 교과서의 읽기 자료에 대해 별다른흥미를 느끼지 못하고 있으며 다양하고도 현실적인 읽기 자료를접하길 바라고 있어 그들의 관심을 끌 수 있는 새로운 읽기자료의필요성이 대두 되었다. 이런 상황에서 아랍어 신문 활용 수업은학습동기를 자극할 뿐만 아니라 학습 의욕과 수업 참여도를상승시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 설문조사와 성적 비교를 통해 볼 때. 실험반 학습자들의흥미도에 비례하여 미미하지만 아랍어 읽기 능력 향상에도 도움이 된 것으로 확인되었다. 이것은 처음 아랍어 신문을 접해본학습자일지라도 본인의 관심 분야이며 분량이 적은 기사들을 가지고짝이나 모둠별로 진행되는 수업이었기 때문에 본 실험이 아랍어읽기 능력 향상에 조금이나마 긍정적인 결과를 가져올 수 있다고본다. 셋째, 개별 학습보다는 모둠이나 짝 활동을 통해 수업에 대한참여도를 강화시킴으로써 하기 싫은 아랍어 수업에서 적극적으로활동하는 태도를 보이게 되었다. 이는 획일적 수업 방식이 아닌학습자 중심의 자기 주도적 학습활동이 학습에 효과적이었으며결과적으로 읽기자료에 대한 자신감과 만족도가 높아졌음을 시사해준다. 이상에서와 같이 아랍어 신문 활용수업은 학습자의 읽기능력을향상시키고 정의적 태도에 매우 긍정적인 효과를 나타냈다고 할 수있다. 입시 위주의 현 교육실정을 전혀 무시할 수는 없지만 학습자의흥미를 자극할 수 있는 아랍어 신문의 장점을 감안한다면 교과서위주의 아랍어 학습에 보완자료로 충분히 활용될 가치가 높다고판단된다. 이러한 아랍어 신문 활용교육이 활성화되기 위해서는 첫째, 수업계획 및 자료를 준비함에 있어서 학습자 중심의 수업이 될 수 있도록구성되어야 한다. 학습 내용을 선정할 때부터 교사의 일방적인주도가 아닌 학습자들의 흥미와 관심 사항을 고려하여 읽기자료를선택해야 한다. 그리고 아랍어 학습의 필수 분야인 말하기, 듣기,쓰기에 까지 연계될 수 있도록 학습자들을 유도하여 학습자 스스로아랍어 신문과 아랍어 신문사의 인터넷 홈페이지를 상호학습의매체로 이용하는 것도 필요할 것이다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to lead students' interestand participation in Arabic language class, and to improve theirArabic language reading comprehension through the use ofArabic newspapers as supplementary materials. Arabicnewspapers which contain the wide variety of human life anddaily updated information can be efficient teaching materialsfor both students and teachers. The articles of Arabicnewspaper can lead middle-level students in their motivationand participation in Arabic language class, and improve theirArabic language reading comprehension. Especially, throughthe Arabic newspaper, students can meet various Arab cultureand understand Arab’s thoughts to achieve successful lessons,I took advantage of the three reading methods known as thepre-reading stage, the while-reading stage, and the postreadingstage. In ‘aljazeera’, an Arabic news and currentaffairs satellite TV channel, I selected interesting sectionssuch as national news, culture, sports, and world topics. Through this experiment, I carried out 12 lessons duringtwelve weeks. And I conducted the pre and post survey aboutlearning Arabic language through the use of Arabicnewspapers. From the result of the analysis, I have come to twoconclusions about experimental class through the use of theArabic newspaper. They were as follows:First, the Arabic newspaper class had a positive effect onstudents' self-confidence and motivation in Arabic languagereading. They participated in the Arabic language classactively and overcame the difficulty of reading Arabiclanguage. Second, using the Arabic newspaper in Arabic languageclass led to improving their reading skills as well as theirinterests and challenging spirit. The experimental group'sgrade average came up 5.2 points in comparison with thecontrol group's. To increase the effect of Arabic Newspaper in EducationArabic language, teachers need to redesign the readingmaterials according to student's preference and ability. Also,teachers should be aware of the importance of ArabicNewspaper in Arabic language Education, and try to developwell-designed lesson plans for successful Arabic newspaperclass.
