『효빈잡기(效嚬雜記)』의 새로운 일화 발견－『한고관외사(寒皐觀外史)』와 『태촌집(泰村集)』 비교를 중심으로－

본 논문은 『한고관외사(寒皐觀外史)』에서 새로 발견된 『효빈잡기(效嚬雜記)』의 일화(逸話)를 소개하고, 『한고관외사』와 고상안의 문집인 『태촌집(泰村集)』에 공통으로 수록된 일화의 편집에 의한 차이를 살펴보았다. 먼저 『한고관외사』의 편찬과 『태촌집』의 간행과정을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 『한고관외사』 내 텍스트가 다른 편집을 거치지 않았고, 당시 유통되던 판본 중 선본(善本)임을 추정하였다. 그리고 후손들이 고상안(高尙顔, 1553~1623) 사후 270여 년 뒤에야 얼마 남지 않은 고상안의 유고(遺稿)와 관련 기록을 모아 『태촌집』을 간행했음을 알 수 있었다. 『한고관외사』와 『태촌집』 내의 『효빈잡기』를 비교한 결과 각각 220화와 190화가 수록되어 있었는데, 각 책에만 수록하고 있는 일화도 69화, 46화가 있어, 이를 통해 두 책 모두 불완전한 동시에 보완적 이본(異本) 관계에 있음을 알 수 있었다. 일화는 크게 동일한 내용의 일화, 동일한 내용 중 생략ㆍ추가된 부분이 있는 일화, 각 책에만 수록된 일화의 3유형으로 나눌 수 있다. 그중 생략ㆍ추가된 부분이 있는 일화는 『한고관외사』에 없는 내용이 『태촌집』에서 세주(細註) 형태로 실려 있는 경우, 이를 통해 문집 구성상의 변화나, 등장인물에 대한 설명, 내용을 보완할 수 있는 정보를 추가하였음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 『태촌집』에는 『한고관외사』에 보이는 오류 등이 수정되어 있는 경우가 있다. 이는 각 책의 편찬자 태도에 따른 것으로, 김려는 내용 중의 오류나 미상(未詳)인 부분에 대해 주석을 통해 의문을 제기하였으나, 『태촌집』에서는 이를 수정하여 제시하고 있다. 반대로 『한고관외사』의 내용이 『태촌집』에서 삭제된 경우도 있는데, 신원(伸冤)되지 못한 강홍립의 이름과 관직이 공란으로 처리된 경우나 수록되어 있던 절구가 없어진 경우, 고상안이 인물에 대해 한 품평 중 부정적인 내용이 삭제된 경우이다. 『한고관외사』에서만 수록된 69화의 일화의 내용은 기존 『태촌집』 수록 내용과 같이 고상안의 당대 현실 비판이나, 풍속에 대한 탐구, 자연 현상이나 동식물에 대한 실증적 인식, 당시 그의 주변에 있었던 일 등을 담고 있다. 그러나 새롭게 발견된 일화 중 일부는 성(性)에 관련한 내용도 포함되어 있다는 점이 특이하다. 이는 후손의 관점에서 선조의 문집을 간행하며, 명예가 훼손될 될 것을 염려하여 성적인 내용을 제외하려 한 의도가 있었을 것으로 추정된다.
Abstract
This study introduced anecdotes in Hyobinjapgi, newly discovered in Hangogwanoesa and examined how the anecdotes in Hangogwanoesa were changed while they were introduced into Taechonjip, the literary collection by Sangan Ko. This study first examined the process of compilation of Hangogwanoesa and the publication of Taechonjip. This study found that the stories in Hangogwanoesa were close to the original versions without any other edits, while Taechonjip was published by descendants of Sangan Ko(1553~1623) approximately 270 years after his death by gathering a handful of records related to Sangan Ko’s works. When Hyobinjapgi featured in Hangogwanoesa and that featured in Taechonjip were compared, 220 and 190 anecdotes, respectively, were included. There were 69 and 46 anecdotes listed in each book alone, respectively, indicating that both books are incomplete, complementary, and alternative versions. The anecdotes can be broadly categorized into three types: anecdotes with the same content, anecdotes with omitted or added parts, and anecdotes that are only included in one of them. Among them, the anecdotes with omissions and additions were in Taechonjip in the form of detailed annotations, although not found in Hangogwanoesa, and they supplemented the content or explained the characters. In some cases, portions of anecdotes were different due to the attitudes of the compilers of each book. Rye Kim questioned errors or unclear parts of the anecdotes through comments, but Taechonjip presented them after correcting those. Conversely, in some cases, the contents of Hangogwanoesa were deleted from Taechonjip, such as the name and official position of Honglip Kang, resentment on whom was not forgiven, removed phrases that used to be included, and deleted negative comments made by Sangan Ko about a person. The 69 anecdotes found only in Hangogwanoesa were about Sangan Ko’s criticism of the reality of his time, his exploration of customs, his empirical perception of natural phenomena, flora and fauna, and what was happening around him at the time, just like the content of Taechonjip. However, it is noteworthy that some of the newly discovered anecdotes include sexuality-related content. This may be because his descendants intentionally excluded sexual content because they were concerned about defaming his reputation while publishing their ancestor’s literary works.
