Abstract

The purpose of this study was to ascertain students’ change in enjoying science lessons through development and application of Digital-Storytelling (DST)-based science teaching and learning program For the purpose this study developed a DST science teaching and learning program with a theme around the Korean traditional food and health, obesity and diet, and ecology tour. 30 sessions of the program were applied to 22 1st grade and 2nd grade girls at specialized vocational high schools in Seoul. Additionally, in this study, in-depth interviews were conducted, based on the Grounded theory and analyzed to examine the effect of the program on students’ change in enjoying science lessons. The result of this study is as follows: After analyzing the students’ interview data about their DST class experience developed from this study, it showed changes in Science-Related Attitudes such as active participation in science class, enhancement in enjoying science lessons and others. This result was generated as the DST program included diverse learning methods including community learning, Meta-learning technology & utilization of narrative, visual expression of thought and others, while offering interaction-centered teaching methods such as co-teaching, feedback and others. and utilizing students’ favorite digital media or software in the science lessons. Students showed positive feedback and this led to positive Science-Related Attitudesas the student’s enjoyment of the science lesson through the diverse DST activities gave motivation in learning and this furthermore triggered more active participation in science classes.
