기후변화와 생물다양성 감소에 대한 지역 기반 SSI 프로그램 운영 및 교육효과 탐색

본 연구에서는 초등학교 5학년 과학교과와 연계하여 기후변화와 생물다양성 감소에 관한 지역사회 기반 과학기술관련 사회쟁점(SSI) 교육 프로그램을 개발하여 운영한 후, 참여 학생들의 태도 및 인식 변화를 탐색해보았다. 또한, 본 프로그램에는 학부모도 함께 참여하였는데 프로그램 참여 후 학부모의 경험과 본 프로그램의 교육적 효과에 대한 인식도 함께탐색하였다. 교육 프로그램은 5학년 3개 학급 학생 60명을 대상으로 운영하였고, 자료수집은 프로그램 전후 기후변화 및 생물다양성 감소에 관한 두 가지 검사도지 응답을 활용하였다. 또한 참여 학부모 중 9명의 면담자료도 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 프로그램 참여 후 기후변화와 생물다양성에 대한 인식과 태도가 모두 통계적으로 유의하게 향상되었다. 특히 하위 영역인 기후변화에 대한 관심 영역과 실천하고자 하는 의지 영역, 생물다양성에 대한 자발적 관심 영역에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 향상이 있었다. 면담에 참여한 학부모들도 프로그램 후에 자녀들의 기후변화와 생물다양성에 대한 인식과태도, 실천행동에 긍정적인 변화가 있음을 관찰하였으며, 그들과 자녀들이 모두 지역사회 생태환경에 대해 많은 관심을 갖게 되었다고 응답하였다. 또한 이들은 기후변화나 환경에 대한 교육은 가정과 학교가 함께 진행해야 더 큰 효과를 가져올 수있음에 동의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a community-based socioscientific issue (SSI) program, integrated with the 5th-grade science curriculum, on students’ perceptions and attitudes toward climate change and biodiversity loss. Parents also participated alongside their children, which allowed an exploration of their experiences and views on the program’s educational effectiveness. For this purpose, sixty 5th-grade students who participated in the program completed two questionnaires, one before and one after the program respectively, and nine parents who participated were interviewed. The results showed that the students’ perceptions and attitudes towards climate crisis and biodiversity loss significantly improved. In specific, there were statistical changes in three sub-factors: “Attitude towards climate change”, “Willingness to take action”, and “Willingness to care for biodiversity.” The interviewed parents reported observing positive changes in their children’s views, attitudes, and actions concerning climate change and biodiversity loss following the program. They also noted that both they and their children developed a greater interest in the local ecological environment. Furthermore, they concurred that joint family-school initiatives in teaching about climate change and environmental issues would be more effective.
