Abstract

Purpose: This study seeks to verify whether the quality management practices of Korean companies positively affect corporate performances by using surveys conducted on a sample of various types of Korean companies. The second stage of the study aims to confirm whether the two important factors in information technology governance, namely, human resource management and system management, have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between quality management practices and corporate performances respectively. Composition/Logic: After checking statistical validity and reliability of variables used in both the research models, we employ simple regression model to verify the relationship between quality management practices and corporate performances. We also implement the moderate or hierarchical regression model to verify the moderating effect of both information technology governance variables, namely, human resource and system management. Findings: In the first stage of this empirical study, we find that quality management practices(independent variable) positively affects corporate performances(dependent variable) and is statistically significant. For information technology governance factors, only the information technology human resource factor shows a positive moderating effect on the relationship between quality management practices and corporate performances. Originality/Value: We contribute to the relevant literature, first by offering an empirical analysis of quality management practices and information technology governance factors, which is scant in the extant literature. Second, we provide managerial implications by demonstrating that for short term performance improvement, companies must actively and strategically invest in quality management practices and the information technology human resource management factor simultaneously.
