Abstract

This study was conducted based on the research that verified the effectiveness of the Mentalization-based treatment (MBT) among the papers in domestic and foreign academic journal papers published over the past ten years (2011-2020). After selecting the 29 papers(3 domestic papers and 26 foreign papers), they were analyzed focusing on research subjects, the form and period of the program, the area of change, and the evaluation tool to explore research trends. Most studies verified the effectiveness of the program based on Bateman & Fonaghy (2004, 2006b) developed for the clients with borderline personality disorder. In some studies, MBT has also been applied to treatment programs for other symptoms or training programs for parents or mental health care workers by expanding the scope of the subject. However, there is limitations in that, in the process of evaluating the effectiveness of the programs, changes in mentalization other than improvement of symptoms were not measured or the self-report test was mainly used. Based on the results, implications and limitations were discussed and directions were proposed to further activate MBT in research and practice.
