초록

Composed by Sofia Gubaidulina (1931- ) in 1984, Quasi Hoquetus for Viola, Bassoon, and Piano is one of her earlier piece to which she applied number series. Gubaidulina employs the Fibonacci series as the primary factor to draw up the number of attacks and forms in Quasi Hoquetus. Furthermore, she diversifies the ways of applying the Golden ratio (1:1.618) and the symmetrical ratio of 1:1. As the author of this paper, I visited the Paul Sacher Foundation in Switzerland reserving Gubaidulina’s compositional manuscript of Quasi Hoquetus, delved into the 1-page pre-compositional plan and analyzed it in light of the score. Noting that Gubaidulina has utilized an original method of composition based on the ‘Rhythm of Form’ using a certain series to determine the number of attacks and forms in her pieces since 1984, this paper elucidates how she used both Golden ratio and number series to organize her harmonic narratives as well as form and rhythm, with intent to explore her compositional method of originality using numbers.
