북간도 광성중학교 발행『최신창가집(부악전)』(1914) 수록 창가 연구: 당대 같은 가사 및 같은 곡조의 창가와 관계성 분석

『최신창가집(부악전)』(最新唱歌集(附樂典))은 북간도 소영자 지구에 이동휘, 계봉우 등이 설립한 광성중학교에서 1914년 중학교 음악 수업에 쓸 목적으로 만든 서양음악 기초이론과 함께 창가 152곡을 담아 246쪽의 분량으로 등사해서 만든 책이다. 이 논문에서 『최신창가집(부악전)』에 수록된 창가의 특징을 가사와 곡조적 측면에서 그 특징을 살피고 1914년 이전에 창가가 게재된 다른 자료, 즉 신문 잡지, 악보 없는 창가집, 악보 있는 창가집에 수록된 창가와의 관계성을 밝히고자 하였다. 『최신창가집(부악전)』의 가사의 특징은 나라 사랑과 교육 계몽에 편중되어 있었다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 곡조의 특징을 보면, 서양음악 양식의 곡이 대부분인데 그 중 서양곡, 찬송가, 일본 창가로 분류되는 곡을 차용한 48곡을 확인할 수 있었다. 『최신창가집(부악전)』에 수록된 곡 중에서 1914년 이전에 신문과 잡지에 게재된 건수는 37건, 22곡을 찾을 수 있었다. 게재된 곡은 <애국가>, <야구>, <혈성대>, <한반도>, <거국행>, <부모은덕>, <정신> 등 안창호가 작사한 노래가 대부분이다. 『최신창가집(부악전)』에 수록된 곡 중에서 1914년 이전의 악보 없는 창가집, 즉 가사 모음 창가집과 간도나 연해주에서 압수된 창가집 6종을 비교한 결과, 6종 창가집 중에 5종에 실린 『최신창가집(부악전)』 수록곡은 <국가>1, <대한혼>, <병식행보>, <부모은덕>, <정신> 등이다. 또한 『최신창가집(부악전)』에 수록곡 중 1914년 이전에 악보집으로 발행한 3종의 창가집, 즉 학부 편찬 『보통교육창가집』(1910), 김인식의 『교과적용보통창가집』(1912), 이각종의 『(풍금독습)중등창가집』(1913)을 비교해 본 결과, 152곡 중 곡조나 가사만 일치하거나 둘 다 일치하는 곡은 56곡임을 확인하였다. 위와 같이 『최신창가집(부악전)』에 수록된 창가와 당대까지의 여러 자료에 수록된 창가를 비교 분석을 통해 1906년에서 1914년 이전까지 당시 민족의식을 고취시키고 국권을 회복하고자 하는 데에 어떤 노래가 유행했고 『최신창가집(부악전)』에서 교육용으로 선곡한 곡의 경향이 무엇인지 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
This paper examines the characteristics of the changga included in Choesin Changgajib in terms of lyrics and tunes; specifically, it reveals the relationship between other changgas published in media before 1914, namely, newspaper magazines and books of changga with or without music scores. It is found that the characteristics of the lyrics of Choesin Changgajib were concentrated on patriotism and educational enlightenment. Most of the tunes are not traditional Korean style but rather Western, and 48 of them were borrowed from Western traditional songs, hymns, and Japanese changgas. Among the songs included in the Choesin Changgajib, 37 were published in newspapers and magazines before 1914, and 22 music scores were found. Five of them are commonly included in six books of changga(lyrics) and among them are books confiscated from Gando and the Maritime Province where Koreans left the country to fight for independence in Japanese Colonial Era. It was confirmed that 56 of the 152 songs overlaps only the tune or lyrics, or both among the songs included in the Choesin Changgajib with the three books of changga published before 1914; Common Educational Channga(1910), Common Book of Subject-Applicated Channga(1912), and Self-Teaching Book of Changga and Reed Organ: Middle Level(1913). Through the comparative analysis of the changga contained in the Choesin Changgajib and various data from the time period from 1906 to 1914, this paper explores which songs were popular and what were the trends of songs selected for education in Choesin Changgajib.
