Abstract

I researched some aspects of acceptance from Korean traditional songs to Soviet-Koreans's songs in the past U.S.S.R. The main contents of this research is to find out the influence about form and substance from the songs that the 1st or following generations learned in their grand fatherland. Mostly immigrants' songs receive strong influence from the traditional elements of their grand fatherland's songs. However, after a few generations, most parts of the traditional elements are eroded. To be alive as one of the members of the community in their new world, they have to adapt themselves to the culture or systems. For smooth adaptation, they have to throw away or modify their cultural inheritance from their ancestors. Therefore, their traditional songs as one part of their native cultures are inevitable to be modified by the new world's songs. So the case of song literature is impossible to avoid wave of changes. Soviet-Koreans experienced diaspora from their grand father land Korea to the Far East region and group diaspora from the Far East to the Central Asia again. Some aspects of constancy and changes materialized during the process appear in the Soviet-Koreans' songs. The unchangeable things in the process of folk ballads' transmission are universal emotion about feeling joy and anger. However, if they meet some troubles with other communities or are shocked from heterogenous cultures, they have to readjust their social post. Even to be alive in the new world, they have to readjust their cultural code to themselves. There is a case of moving rhythm, tune, and lyrics of the Korean traditional folk ballads as they are, other case of remaking them fitting to the Russian political and social situation. We can explain the former as constancy, latter as changes. Constancy is unchangeable emotional or formal elements as long as the Koreans' tribal identity is continued, change is changeable elements that can't help adjusting by real need for adaptation. Changes of Soviet-Koreans' traditional songs in Russia can be said as a cultural alteration i.e. acculturation. Even now after 1 century from moving and adaptation, acculturation like that is being kept up. Recently, a lot of Korean scholars visit this region continuously to emphasize the value or cultural meaning of Soviet-Koreans' traditional songs. Owing to their efforts, their consciousness about the traditional songs can be quite within the realms of possibility being renewal as time goes by. The will to make the songs in their memory alive even depending on the very spot's singing culture is so important rather than throwing away the Korean traditional songs to the swamp of forgetfulness. We have to maintain Soviet-Koreans' traditional songs with futures. It is an urgent task even in the viewpoint to secure our cultural territories or mental boundaries.
