This study analyzed the problem-solving results and error patterns of grammar questions presented from 2022 to 2025 to examine ChatGPT's grammatical competence. As a result, ChatGPT demonstrated strengths in integrated questions and those related to conceptual and factual understanding. However, due to data recognition errors, it failed to answer questions on the history of the Korean language. Additionally, it exhibited errors in phonological variation phenomena, microscopic analysis of linguistic units, and the application of semantic or pragmatic concepts. Furthermore, issues such as hallucinations and insufficient condition exploration were observed. Therefore, performance improvement through technological advancement is required. In addition, it is necessary to identify the principles of Korean grammatical competence and sufficiently train or fine-tune ChatGPT with learning data based on those principles. In addition, when utilizing ChatGPT’s grammatical competence, it is important to critically review the initially generated answers and follow up with additional questioning as needed.
