본 논문은 한국 제조업 기업을 대상으로 R&D와 특허가 생산성에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 있다. 산출, 투입, R&D자료는 한국신용평가정보의 KIS-FAS 자료를 이용하였으며, 특허자료는 특허청의 특허통계 원자료를 이용하였다. 분석기간은 1984-99년이며 대상기업은 해당 기간동안 계속 상장한 68개 기업이다. 회귀분석 결과 R&D와 특허는 생산성 증가에 통계적으로 유의한 양의 영향을 미치고 있다. 특허보다는 R&D가 생산성에 미치는 영향이 더 크고, 자기업 특허보다는 타기업 특허가 생산성에 미치는 영향이 더 크다. 이 결과는 지식의 축적이 생산성을 증가시키고, 어떤 기업의 기술진보가 자기 기업만이 아니라 다른 기업의 생산성 증가에도 기여한다는 기술의 기업간 파급효과를 보여주고 있다.
Abstract
This paper analyses the effects of R&D and patents on productivity in Korean manufacturing firms during the period 1984-99. The data contains 68 companies listed in Korea Stock Exchange (KSE). We used KIS-FAS data for output, input, and R&D expenditure, and also used patent data from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). The regression results show that R&D investments, rather than patents, have significantly positive effects on the productivity, and that the effects of other firm's patents turn out to be stronger than those of own patents. It means that knowledge increases productivity of firms, and that there are positive spillover effects of technology among firms.
