Abstract

The opinion relating the novel to the society has been one of many efforts to understand the novel. The representative viewpoint of the opinion was the mirror image approach; the idea that the novel can reflect the reality as it is, and the novel is the reality itself is still being spread out. If a plot is made relating the novel as an artistic contrivance to the usualness of everyday life, it will be the plot of usualness. For the novel and the sociology are the identical conducts to recognize the objective rules and its nature, to interpret the lives of men in the concrete as well. Therefore the concrete reality and the lives of usual can be the frame of incidents to construct a story. The characteristic of the narrative of the usualness is the unsettled conclusion; the plot develops on with the usualness and continuity, not with the sequence and causality which give priority to the incidents. The frame of incidents in this plot is somewhat loosened, but it conveys the ‘Lebenswelt’ realistically. This plot shows a tendency of satirical novels, and proceeds with arraying episodes. There is a group which has this sort of characteristic in Korean novels. Korean language has a propensity of oral culture, and this propensity fits with the narrative of the usualness.
