Abstract

A Study of Wolko Cho, Sung-ga’s life and learning Focusing on Wolko's academic activity in the diffusion of the Nosa school in Young-nam region and his learning from Nosa Ki Jung-jin攀* Assistant professor, Kunsan National University.攀攀Park, Hak-rae*Wolko(月皐) Cho Sung-ga(趙性家), evaluated as one of the most important figure in the Nosa school(蘆沙學派), is the first Youngnam Woodo(嶺南右道) region student of Ki Jung-jin(奇正鎭) of the late 19th century and firstly perused his master’s representative work, Weophil(猥筆). Moreover, among the enshrined scholars in the Kosan seowon(高山書院), he was the oldest man, and he wrote an obituary on Ki Jung-jin as a leading student. Cho sung-ga was a representative figure of Youngnam woodo region in the Nosa school, where have got the academic hegemony in Honam(湖南) and Youngnam woodo region early, and he was a pivotal figure on diffusing the Nosa school academic network in this region. He substantially contributed in producing Nosa school students in Young-nam region basing on Ki jung-jin’s reputation and social network with Yongnam region scholars. 18In this article, bearing on these facts, Cho sung-ga’s life and learning will be examined in terms of the diffusion of Nosa school in the Youngnam Region. Moreover, the speciality of his neo-confucian ideology will be identified during his learning from the master, Ki Jung-jin. Especially, paying attention to the academic structure of Youngnam woodo region, I will examine the formation and development of Nosa school in Youngnam woodo region relationship among other schools, Hanjoo school(寒洲學派) and Sungjae school(性齋學派), focusing on Cho sung-ga’s academic activity.
