본 논문은 조선의 개항 이후 1963년에 이르는 무역통계 데이터베이스(DB)를 정 비하고 무역지수를 추계하는 것을 과제로 한다. 이를 위해 새로운 자료를 발굴하 고 통계 작성기관의 변천에 따라 달라진 통계작성 기준을 통일하고 무역 품목마 다 표준국제무역분류(SITC) 코드를 부여하였다. 그리고 UN의 Comtrade DB와 접속함으로써 통계 DB를 2006년까지 연장하였다. 또한 피셔 연쇄 방식의 수출입 단가지수와 물량지수 및 교역조건을 작성하고 그것을 한국은행이 발표한 무역지 수와 연결하였다. 이상의 작업에 기초하여, 개항 이후 현재까지의 130년을 개항 기, 식민지기, 해방 후 1960년대 초, 1960년대 중엽 이후의 네 시기로 나누고, 각 시기의 무역구성과 무역지수의 추이와 그 배경을 설명하였다. 개항기와 식민지기 를 통해 무역품의 유별 구성은 다양해지고 집중도가 낮아졌다. 개방체제가 후퇴 한 해방 후의 십 수년을 제외하면 한국 무역의 빠른 성장은 개항 이후 지속되어 온 특징이었다. 순 상품교역조건은 시기에 따라 개선 또는 악화되기도 하였지만, 수출 물량의 빠른 증대로 인해 대부분의 시기에 소득 교역조건은 지속적으로 개 선되었다.
Abstract
This paper is purposed to build up the foreign trade statistics DB(Data-base) of Korea from 1877 to 1963 and estimate the long-term trend of foreign trade. Major work for this was to utilize new sources, to combine various trade statistics which were differently formatted according to producers, and to assign SITC(Standard International Trade Classification) code to each item. This elaboration allowed us to link our data with UN Comtrade DB, which result in a consistent series from 1877 to 2006. We also computed the chained Fischer unit price index, the quantity index of trade and the terms of trade, which were linked up with indices exhibited by the BOK(Bank of Korea). We divided the 130-year period since the opening of the port into four, which are the open-port period, the colonial period, from the liberation to the early 1960s and after the mid-1960s, showed how the composition of trade and the various indices changed over time and tried to explain their differences in each period. The high growth of trade was characterizing all period, except the third period when the openness was shrinking. Even though the net barter terms of trade was sometimes improved or deteriorated, the income terms of trade was improved constantly all the time due to the fast increasing quantity of export.
