본고는 한국학중앙연구원 장서각(이하 ‘한중연장서각’)의 연구 현황과 앞으로의 과제에 관해 살피는 글이다. 한중연장서각은 조선시대 국가왕실과 민간 사대부 문중의 고전적(古典籍)을 조사·수집·보존처리·관리·연구하는 기관이다. 1981년 문화재관리국 장서각사무소로부터 조선왕실 고전적이 이관된 이후, 한중연장서각은국가왕실 고전적의 연구와 함께 민간 사대부 문중의 고전적을 조사·수집해 왔다. 한중연장서각이 2011년 이전에 수행해온 연구 과제 대부분은 국학진흥연구사업과 한국학진흥사업단의 지원에 전적으로 의지했다. 그러나 2012년 이후 본예산이 대폭 증액되면서 한중연장서각의 인적·물적 여건은 그 전과 달리 본격적인 고전적종합 연구기관의 면모를 갖추었다. 2019년부터 한중연장서각의 연구자들은 ‘장서각 고전적 관리 시스템(Jangseogak Archive Resource Management System, 이후 JARMS)을 통해서 고전적의 서지·해제·이미지구축·보존처리상태·수장위치·반출상태 등의 작업을 웹사이트 기반에서 수행하고 있다. JARMS가 내부연구용 도구라면 웹사이트 ‘디지털장서각’과 ‘한국고문서자료관’은 외부에서 한중연장서각의 자료에 접근할 수있는 플랫폼이다. 향후 한중연장서각은 ‘장서각 책의 문화사’ 프로젝트에 모든 연구역량을 집중할 계획이다. ‘장서각 책의 문화사’는 ① 책의 생산과 유통, ② 책에 담긴 지식, ③ 책의 물질적 기반인 종이 등의 3분야로구성된다. 조선시대 사람들이 축적해온 책과 지식에 얽힌 역사는 향후 한중연장서각의 핵심 연구 성과가 될것이다.
Abstract
This article examines the current state of the research in the Jangseogak Archives at the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS Jangseogak Archives) and its upcoming tasks. The AKS Jangseogak Archives is an institute that survey, collect, process to conserve, oversee, and study the old books and documents from the court of Chosŏn (1392~1910) and private literati families (munjung). Ever since the Office of Jangseogak at the Bureau of Cultural Properties Preservation transferred the old books and documents of the Chosŏn court to the Academy of Korean Studies in 1981, the AKS Jangseogak Archives has conducted research on the documents of the royal archive on the one hand, and surveyed and collected books and written materials from private munjung on the other. Prior to 2011, the AKS Jangseogak Archives relied its research entirely on the support of the Committee for Promotion of National Learning (Gukhak jinheung yeon’gu sa’eop chjin wiweonhoe) and the Korean Studies Promotion Service (Han’gukhak jinheung sa’eoptan). Since the 2012, with a drastic budgetary increase for its material and staffing conditions, the AKS Jangseogak Archives has been reshaped into a full-scale research institution of old books and documents. The research staff at the AKS Jangseogak Archives has been carrying out on web-site platforms their projects on bibliographical records, introductions, digital images, states of conservation, archive locations, and availability of the collected old documents through the Jangseogak Archive Resource Management System, JARMS). Whereas the JARMS is an internal research tool, the web sites, Digital Jangseogak (Dijiteol Jangseogak, jsg.aks.ac.kr) and Archive of Old Documents of Korea (Han’guk Gomunseo Jaryogwan, archive.aks.sc.kr), are the platforms through which scholars can access the materials collected in the AKS Jangseogak Archives from the outside. In the coming years, the AKS Jangseogak Archives plans to focus its research on the project entitled “The Cultural History of Books at Jangseogak Archives,” which comprises three areas: The production and circulation of the book, the knowledge contained in the book, and the paper that is the material basis of the book. The AKS Jangseogak Archives will produce the core research achievements on the history of books and knowledge that the people of Chosŏn had accumulated.
