The purpose of this study is to explore effects of residents’ participation in the organizing process of the local festival on their flow and sustainability of festival. Festivals are essentially community-based tourism, which can be regarded as the systematic development and marketing of special events as tourist attractions and as image-builders for destinations. Under the postulation that resident’s participation in local festival affects their sense of flow, this study attempted to explore how Paleolithic Age festival had an effect on sustainability of festival. The study revealed that more residents participate in the local festival, the more they are involved in the festival program, enhancing the positive sense of festival sustainability. In the organizing process of the festival, however, there is no significant relationship between residents’ participation and sense of flow and sustainability. The study made important implications for festival organizers, event though the study has several limitations in terms of generalizability and transferability.
