본 연구는 통계청의 2009년 생활시간조사 원자료를 이용하여 부부의 경제적 능력, 유급노동시간, 젠더역할관의 주요 변인들을 중심으로 맞벌이 부부의 가사노동분담을 분석하고 있다. 상대적 자원이론, 시간제약 이론 등의 경제적 교환관점은 가사노동시간의 개인차에 대하여는 설명하고 있으나 부부간의 차이에 대한 설명은 매우 약하다. 젠더이데올로기 관점은 이러한 교환논리가 놓치고 있는 부분을 일정부분 메꾸고 있다. 아내의 가사노동에는 아내의 경제력이나 유급노동을 제외하면 남편의 젠더이데올로기 등의 남편의 영향이 매우 큰 것으로 드러나고 있다. 반면에 남편의 가사노동에는 아내의 영향이 거의 없는 않는 것으로 나타나 아내의 경제력이나 유급노동여부가 남편의 가사참여를 끌어내지 못하고 있음을 보여주고 있다. 가사노동에서의 젠더보상행동 역시 남편에서는 나타나지 않고 주로 아내에게서 나타나고 있다.
Abstract
This study investigates the gendered division of housework in the dual-earner households using 2009 Time Use Survey Data of Statistics Korea. The problem in the division of housework is wives do the most of housework no matter what their paid work time. Among three major perspectives, though relative resource and time availability perspectives provides some explanations on individual differences in housework time, gender ideology perspective captures more successfully the gendered nature of the division of housework. While the gender role attitude and educational level of husbands are strongly associated with the variation in wives’ housework time, the paid work and economic power of wives barely account for husbands’ housework participation. Even the non-normative economic roles presses wives more, not husbands, to do gender compensation behavior.
