1609년 『迎接都監米麵色儀軌』의중국 사신 접대 器皿類

Abstract

This study began as an effort to understand the production and consumption of the high-class craftworks in Joseon dynasty by analyzing the items from the Yeongjeop-dogam-mimyeonsaek- uigwe(迎接都監米糆色儀軌) in 1609. It is a record about the items prepared for the envoys and entourage during their stay in the guesthouse of Joseon. From the diplomatic importance, all the occasions and a broad range of supplies were prearranged carefully and the details of the service were compiled as references after they left. The existing records of Yeongjeop-dogam-mimyeonsaek-uigwe cover the reception of Chinese envoys in the early 17th century and the data is worth studying as an example showing the use of craftworks in the royal court of Joseon. According to the record, service items included foods, beverages, and supplies such as incense, charcoal, torchlight, medicine, etc. Vessels of brass, iron, ceramic, and wooden ware were also specified with their names, sizes, and materials, which were differentiated by the social status of users. Among the vessels of highest quliaty served to the envoys, the most important items were cups for wine and tea. They appeared with specific names indicating forms and materials but detailed research has yet to be done. By analyzing the record and related resources, this study examined the details of preparation for the items, especially vessels used to serve the envoys and entourage in the guesthouse. Comparisons with other pictorial evidences provided keys to embody the forms of cups that remained uncertain in the record only with their names, which makes it helpful to understand a part of craftworks used in the royal court of Joseon.
