초록
Comprehensive assessment is needed for the purposes of thorough screening, assessment, and monitoring. Such assessments are also needed among younger children who are able to report on their mental health problems, given the importance of self-reported information to complement the recommended multi-informant approach to assessment. In the present study, we therefore examined the ability for younger children (grades 3-6; ages 8 to 10), who fall below the typical (11-18 years old) age range for the Youth Self Report – Korean Version (K-YSR), to be able to provide reliable and valid responses on the K-YSR. Results revealed that ‘Younger Children’ (grades 3-6; n=631) were able to provide scores that met benchmark for adequate reliability, and they were associated with stronger reliability than ‘Older Children’ (grades 7-11; n=407) across several subscales. Younger children’s scores on the K-YSR also led to excellent model fit for its widely used Syndrome scales, and also strong internal and external validity coefficients, supporting the meaningfulness and interpretability of younger children’s scores on the K-YSR. Limitations and implications for research, policy, and clinical application are discussed.
