This study explores the significance of community-based tourism (CBT) in overcoming the limitations of initial tourism development strategies that overlooked the environmental and socio-cultural impacts of mass tourism. It highlights Tanzania's potential for CBT, drawing on its rich biodiversity and natural resources, within the broader context of African tourism trends and the need for sustainable tourism development. The study emphasizes the importance of balancing economic gains with social and cultural value enhancement through local community participation and benefits. It analyzes the current status of Tanzania's tourism industry and the potential role of CBT, offering strategic insights through the examination of successful domestic and international examples. The ultimate goal is to contribute to sustainable tourism policymaking in Tanzania and similar developing countries, ensuring that tourism development positively impacts local communities and promotes overall sustainability.
