2007년 이후 미국에서 출판된 그림책에 등장하는 로봇 캐릭터의 분류 연구

초록

이 연구에서는 2007년 이후 미국에서 출판된 그림책에 등장하는 로봇 캐릭터를 조사하고 분류하였다. 로봇 캐릭터가 어린이들에게 미래의 로봇과학과 관련하여 어떤 질문을 던지는지 생각해 보고, 또 그 질문들은 한국 Science Fiction(SF) 아동청소년 문학에서 나타난 로봇 캐릭터가 암시하는 토론 점과 어떤 공통점이 있는지 알아보는 데 이 연구의 목적을 두었다. 연구 대상으로 약 지난 십년간 미국에서 출판된 22권의 그림책을 선정하였고 로봇이 존재하는 장소와 행동에 따라 로봇 캐릭터를 크게 두 가지로 1) 인간과 공존하는 로봇과 2) 인간세계가 아닌 다른 세계에 존재하는 로봇으로 분류하고 이를 각각 다시 세분화 하여 분류하였다. 로봇 캐릭터 분류 분석결과 2007년 이후 미국에서 출판된 그림책에 나타난 로봇 캐릭터는 어린이들에게 다양한 로봇의 종류를 소개할 뿐만 아니라 한국 SF 아동청소년 문학에서 등장하는 로봇 캐릭터와 마찬가지로 어린이들에게 인간과 로봇의 정의를 생각하게 하고 그들의 관계 변화까지 보여준다고 해석할 수 있었다. 인간과 로봇의 정의와 그에 따른 윤리적 문제는 미래 사회를 살아 갈 어린이들이 한번쯤 생각 해 보아야 할 문제라고 생각한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to survey and categorize robot characters in picture books published in the United States since 2007. A total of 22 picture books were categorized and analyzed for the study. As a result, two big categories were found based on where robots live and what they do: 1) Robots that live with humans and 2) Robots that live in another world, not in a human world. Each category was divided into subcategories for the further analysis. The study shows that the robot characters in picture books introduce various types of robots to children. Similar to the robot characters found in Korean Science Fiction Children’s and Young Adult Literature, robot characters in pictures books published in the U.S. since 2007 also help children think about the definitions of humans and robots and the changing relationship between them. The study suggests that children who will live in the future society should think about definitions of humans and robots as well as ethical problems that come with the new definitions.
