초록
The era of Korean modernism in its infancy, from late in the 19th century to early in the next, witnessed a host of various narratives which were called a soseol(소설) in the lump. These narratives' rich emergence was especially caused by the contemporary newspapers. They featured various narratives, which included satires, fables, biographies and new-novels. These narratives except new-novel, however, were mostly so digested that they couldn't describe characters, events, and so on. Researchers on early Korean literary era have centered their narrative-related-discussions on mainly new-novel, which only satisfied the norms of Western European novel they brought in. The interest in digested narratives has been formed relatively recently. This interest has extended the scope of narratives and emphasized that narratives at that period had not been transplanted from the Western but handed down traditionally. The scope of narratives were so wide-ranged that its systematical organization seems to be very hard. In order to solve this problem, descriptively illustrating narratives as they were or prescriptively grouping narratives into genre were attempted. This paper is to reconstruct the definition of narratives identified at that time and investigate into features of narrarives from the aspect of the fact-fiction relation.
