Abstract

This thesis tries to arrange research results of excavating archaeology of the Neolithic era in Pri-Baikal, Siberia, for the recent 20 years and examine the change aspect of the living and residence systems in the Neolithic era diachronically through this. The Pri-Baikal area is divided into 4 small areas and the geographic background, the ecological environment, and the cultural aspect of the Neolithic era is examined through this. The demographic information, food life, and physical condition are examined through a scientific analysis of burial methods of the tomb groups and ancient bones excavated in the Neolithic era. The result of a stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis has found that the main living food of residents in Holocene in the middle age is hunting and the main quarry is deer. But it has found that the importance of hunting decreased somewhat from the early Neolithic era to the early Bronze age. The analysis of ancient bones has found that people in the Neolithic era are heavily dependent on fishes and have a large workload and their physical and developmental condition is poor. The interesting point is estimated that intake of fishing resources is not high than the researcher expected. The process of changing living and residence systems of the Neolithic era in Pri-Baikal shows different aspects according to the 4 small areas. But it has found that the width of resource selectivity broadened and stable food supply was done as the center of subsistence strategies generally moved from logistical mobility to residental mobility. The aspect of the burial methods can be found that the multi-burial system (多人葬) was changed to the single-burial system(單人葬). An analysis of skull measurements, mtDNA, and Y chromosome has found that hereditary affinity of the group in the early Neolithic era is not higher than that of the groups in the late Neolithic era / the early Bronze Age. In the future, additional studies and analyses on Transbaikal, Siberia will be expected to get answers to ancient environment, the size of population, hereditary affinity, living strategies, and physical condition including the cultural aspects of the entire area of Holocene Siberia in the middle age.
