Abstract

The expansion in a producer service business has not onlybrought on a change in the city’s landscape but also on thecharacteristic of labor. Instead of strength or muscle, the demand isfor professional knowledge, quick information and extensive networks. However, by focusing only on an increase in producer services, weoverlook that depending on race, age and gender it is differentiatedwidely and in over half of service labor, especially with femaleservice labor, sexual intimacy exchange is an important element thatcomes up. As such, in this thesis I will attempt to revise thecharacteristics of urban labor from a feminist’s perspective and onthis basis analyze the argument over the kiss-bang service that hasrecently appeared in Seoul. An analysis of arguments on the kiss-bang service will show theoverall factors that cause women to perform service labor that offersdirect physical, emotional or sexual intimacy. In addition, thisanalysis will reveal why and through what method sexual intimacytransactions are criticized. Furthermore, analysis on the argument ofkiss-bangs can show what strategies and negotiations are beingperformed within the limits of existing customs in order for people totake a position on what sex service labor is allowed and through this,how the existing meaning of intimacy has changed.
