초록
Government corruption is a pervasive phenomenon in transition economies because the complexities stemming from institutional transition may provide numerous opportunities to pay and request bribes. If some firms from transition economy expand into developed host countries with a purpose of escaping from ‘seemingly corrupt’ home country government institutions, these firms may tend to overly attribute their investment motivation to ‘seemingly attractive’ institutional environments in developed host countries. In addition, those firms may perceive even more less extent of government corruption in developed host countries when they regard the focal host country as a strategic market and when they invest in an industry with a high level of sunk costs. Drawing on attribution theory and real options logic, this paper aims to contribute to the international business literature by proposing propositions on the relationship between MNE’s country of origin and perceived government corruption as a research note.
