Abstract
The purpose of this study was to offer basic data for efficient management of Pinus densiflora stand. Even though the difference was not significant, soil moisture content and total N content at the health-thinned sites were higher than those of the control. Soil pH, organic matter content, available P and CEC were significantly different between the health-thinned and the control (p<0.05). Pinus thunbergii, Styrax japonicus and Rhus trichocarpa had higher was higher importance value for tree, subtree and shrub layer at the health-thinned sites P. densiflora for tree and subtree layer and R. trichocarpa for shrub layer was high. The species diversity ranged from 0.481 to 1.367 at the health-thinned sites and 0.828 to 1.415 at the control. Evenness was 0.570~0.868 and 0.673~0.989 at the health-thinned and control, respectively. DBH class of major three species showed normal distribution at the health-thinned sites, while the distribution at the control consisted of many individuals of the lower class. In relation to DBH and height growth of P. densiflora, height growth at the health-thinned site was relatively better than that of the control at same diameter class. The average annual growth rate over time increased at the health-thinned sites.
