Abstract

This study was aimed to select seeds of Brassica and Raphanus germplasm in terms ofsuperior with bioactive compounds content and to inform sophisticated data for developing thehigh value-added products. We estimate to aspects of the antioxidant activiy, polyphenol, andflavonoid contents of seeds from the total 92 cultivars and breeding lines in Brassica(cabbage, brocoli, kohlrabi, and cauliflower) and Raphanus(raddish) germplasm. There are singificantdifferences between physiological functonalites of Brassica and Raphanus. The antioxidantactivity, contents of polyphenol and flavonoid were differed according to variation of Brasscia. ‘Tropic Sun Plus(B8)’ cabbage seeds and other 22 cultivars and breeding lines in Brassica seeds were selected to aspects of superior antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activities of ‘13-FM136-5×13-FM 138-1 (R33)’ and ‘Taeyang (R43)’ radish seeds were 142% and 157%,respectively, which were greater than other cutlivars and breeding lines of radish seeds. Thepolyphenol contents of ‘Tropic Sun Plus(B8)’ cabbage seed and other 10 cultivars and breedinglines’s seeds were the greatest among Brasscia germplasm, while those of ‘13-FH 20-1 (R4)’and ‘13-FH 20-2 (R5)’ radish seeds were superior than other radish seeds. ‘Megaton(B14)’cabbage seed and other 14 cultivars and breeding lines in Brassica seeds were represented asthe contain high amounts of flavonoid. In addition, the flavonoid content of ‘13-FH 20-2 (R5)’radish seed showed over 1,000mg·100g-1, which was the greatest among all the tested radishgermplasm. Results revealed that there was significant variation of antioxidant activity andbioactive compounds contents in Cruciferae seeds and the selected cultivars and breeding lines’sseeds can be used to materials for developing high value-added products.
