Abstract
Agro-healing, which integrates nature and human activities, has emerged as a prominent alternative to address the psychological and emotional needs of modern society. In particular, social interest and demand for agro-healing have surged significantly since the enactment of the "Act on the Promotion and Research and Development of Healing Agriculture" in 2021. However, domestic research has shown limitations in empirically analyzing and concretizing the psychological and emotional effects of agro-healing. This study aimed to explore the symbolic "parallel themes" revealed through horticultural activities, particularly the sowing process. Activity worksheets collected from a horticultural therapy program involving prisoners preparing for social reintegration were analyzed. Through this, symbolic parallels were identified between sowing activities and major life themes, such as career and achievements, family and interpersonal relationships, personal growth and resilience, faith and spirituality, and contributions to the community. The findings showed that sowing activities provided prisoners with opportunities for self-reflection and emotional integration, positively contributing to their social reintegration. These results suggest that agro-healing can be effectively utilized as a therapeutic tool to support individual psychological growth and reintegration into the community. Furthermore, this study is expected to contribute to the deepening of agro-healing theories and the expansion of their practical applications.
