과학과에서의 사회·정서 교육의 적용 가능성 탐색

초록

사회의 급격한 변화에 따른 가정교육의 약화는 사회성과 정서 측면의 학교교육의 필요성과 비중을 증가시켰다. 개인의 사회성과 정서는 인지적 능력을 발현하게 하는주요 요인이다. 이 연구에서는 문헌 연구 및 과학교사 대상 설문조사를 통하여 과학교과에서의 사회․정서교육의적용 가능성을 탐색하였다. 과학교사들은 사회·정서 교육의 필요성 및 중요성에 동의하지만, 입시와 성적 중심의경쟁 교육 풍토로 인하여 제대로 진행되지 않다고 인식하고 있었다. 과학의 본성 및 탐구와 의사소통은 과학교과의 사회․정서교육의 실질적인 적용 가능성을 내포한다. 학교 과학교육에서 사회․정서 교육을 적용시킴으로써, 인지적 영역과 균형을 이루고, 이를 통해 학교 과학교육의역할을 재정립할 수 있을 것이다. 이를 통하여 개인간의지적 경쟁보다 사회공동체적 협동성을 지닌 전인교육적인 발달 요구를 충족시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Abstract

With dramatic societal changes and the weakening of home education, the importance of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has increased in schools. Specifically, when it comes to students regulating their emotions and managing societal pressures is a major component on the educational agenda these days. Students’ emotions and societal pressures serve as the foundation for success of cognitive and other functional abilities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility and practicality of SEL in science classes by reviewing the related articles and survey of science teachers. The nature of science, and inquiry and communication stands at the core of SEL of science. Science teachers admitted that the science of SEL is essential and important but is not implemented because of competitive education, especially from those parts which are focuses on knowledge and achievement scores. Through the science of SEL, science education keeps the balance between cognitive, affective, and psychological aspects. We would expect the science of SEL is an important part of a well-rounded education rather than putting students into competition with one another.
