Abstract

This paper looks at policy on school evaluation system in Korea. The objective of the research is to provide policy-makers with professional, systematic diagnosis and recommendations so that they may reflect on their practices and have opportunity to gain professional advice on their job. A further aim is to identify the weakness and strength of school evaluation policy, in particular with respect to attempt to raise national level, in order to draw out the implications for policy-makers. The paper consists of two major part. In the first part the researcher developed a policy evaluation model for school evaluation system as an alternative assessment methods. To make evaluation a more insightful and useful tool for the policy, several principles established at various levels. First, policy should always be very much typology and regulation oriented, attempting to identify decision-makers and serve their information needs. Second, the basic function of policy evaluation is to help get a better understanding of the process of the policy and its quality. In the second part of the paper, the researcher tried to adapt the model in school evaluation system in Korea.
