Abstract
Recently, many universities have been paying attention to a new teaching and learning method called flipped learning which reverses the order of typical lectures. In particular, mid-level universities are introducing lessons based flipped learning in mathematics clinic programs which are designed to improve students’ math skills and to provide higher quality of education. Currently, mathematics clinic programs are extracurricular, instructor-led courses resulting in low student participation producing ineffective results. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a university mathematics clinic program based on flipped learning to evaluate whether it could be an effective alternative teaching and learning method. For this purpose, 16 lessons of clinic program based on flipped learning were conducted with 8 engineering students enrolled in a university mathematics course at H university. The result findings were as follows. First, students’ learning motivation improved in terms of attention, relevance, and satisfaction but not in terms of self-confidence. Second, students’ self-directed learning, interest, and concentration were shown to increase throughout the program. Third, communication through interaction between students and lecturer increased. Fourth, students were satisfied with the program and reported they would recommended this program to their peers. Hence flipped learning is recommended as a effective teaching and learning method for lecturers who are in charge of clinic program.
