Abstract
This study was conducted with a golf exercise group (GG, n=13) and a control group (CG, n=13) to investigate the effect of a 12-week golf exercise on neuro-growth factors (BDNF, NGF) and brain related cognitive substance (Tau) in male middle school students. The golf exercise program gradually increased the exercise intensity from 130 to 140 balls during weeks 1-4, 100 to 120 balls during weeks 5-8, and 80 to 90 balls during weeks 9-12. The following conclusions were obtained. In BDNF, the group×time interaction effect (p<.05) and main time effects (p<.01) between the GG and the CG was shown. Also, there was significant change after intervention and change values between GG and CG. Based on the within-group variation by time, a significant decrease was shown for the CG. In NGF, there was a group×time interaction effect (p<.05) and main time effects (p<.05) between the GG and the CG. Also, significant differences were found in the values of change between groups. The GG and CG showed between-group variation for change values. In Tau, there was no effect of group×time interaction between the group×time of the GG and the CG. Therefore, the positive results of 12-week of golf exercise in male middle school students' BDNF and NGF are considered to have a positive effect on brain growth and cognitive function in adolescence.
