본 연구의 목적은 청년 인구 이동과 노동시장 여건 간의 상호작용을 살펴보는 것이다. 특히 본 연구는 인구 이동과 지역 노동시장 간의 인과관계가 양방으로 작용할 수 있다는 인식 하에 내생성의 문제를 줄이기 위하여 인구의 외생적 변동을 확보하는 데 주의를 기울인다. 본 연구의 분석 결과에 의하면 첫째, 청년 인구의 이동은 여타 연령집단에 비해 지역간 임금 격차 및 고용률 격차에 더 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 나타난다. 이는 청년 인구의 이동이 노동력 배분의 효율성을 제고하는 작용을 할 수 있음을 의미한다. 둘째, 인구의 외생적 변동이 임금과 고용률에 미치는 효과는 여타 연령집단에 비해 청년 집단에서 더 낮게 나타난다. 이는 청년 인구 이동이 지역간 노동시장 격차를 축소시키고 그에 따라 추가적인 인구 이동을 억제하게 되기까지는 상당한 시간이 소요될 수 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the interaction between migration and labor market conditions. Specifically, by minimizing the endogeneity problem, this study aims to reveal the causal relationship between migration and regional labor markets in both directions. Our empirical results indicate that youth migration is more sensitive to regional wage and employment disparities compared to migration among other age groups. This suggests that youth migration can play a key role in enhancing the overall efficiency of labor allocation. Additionally, the effects of exogenous population changes on wages and employment rates are found to be lower in the young population group than in other age groups. This implies that considerable time may be required for labor migration to reduce regional labor market disparities and subsequently curb further migration.
