초록

Objective: The aim of this study was to demonstrate the serial findings and the utilities of electrophysiologic tests in Bell’s palsy (BP). Methods: We analyzed the serial eletrophysiologic findings and clinical grade of 50 patients with BP. The facial NCS and blink reflex (BR) were performed more than 3 times over 2 months. According to clinical grade at the final assessment, we classified the patients as two groups: good prognosis (grade 1: normal) and poor prognosis (the others). We described the results of facial NCS according to amplitude of compound muscle action potential ratio: mildly decreased (>50%) and markedly decreased (absent or <50%). Results: It seems to be that result of facial NCS at the first and second assessment was associated with prognosis. The absence of BR was observed in all patients at the first assessment. Although the reappearance of BR was observed in 22 patients at the final assessment, this was not related with prognosis. Conclusion: The serial facial NCS seems to be a useful predictor for estimating prognosis of BP. Early absence of BR is helpful to diagnose BP in acute phase but was not correlated with prognosis of BP.
