Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the sequential mediating effect of negative parenting behaviors and parent-child relationship on the association between fixed mindset and life satisfaction of parents with school-aged and adolescent children. A total of 940 parents were surveyed, and the participants had at least one child. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, correlations, and sequential mediation analysis using Hayes’ process model. The results of this study showed that parent-child relationship significantly mediated the association between fixed mindset and life satisfaction. Also, negative parenting behaviors and parent-child relationship significantly and sequentially mediated the association between fixed mindset and life satisfaction of parents with school-aged and adolescent children. The bootstrapping results showed that the sequential mediation effect was statistically significant. The results of this study indicate the negative influence of fixed mindset on parents’ life satisfaction and the importance of parents’ negative parenting behavior and parent-child relationship. The results can be applied when coaching parents with school-aged and adolescent children.
