Abstract
This study examined the effect of mothers' face sensitivity on controlled parenting attitudes in mothers with children in the lower grades of elementary school, focusing on the mediating effect of maladaptive perfectionism. To this end, an online survey was conducted with mothers residing in the metropolitan area who have children in the lower grades of elementary school, resulting in a final sample of 207 participants for analysis. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and the PROCESS MACRO. The main research findings are as follows: First, a significant positive correlation was confirmed among mothers' face sensitivity, controlled parenting attitudes, and maladaptive perfectionism. Second, maladaptive perfectionism demonstrated a significant mediating effect in the relationship between mothers' face sensitivity and controlled parenting attitudes. These results suggest that high face sensitivity in mothers influences maladaptive perfectionism, which in turn mediates controlled parenting attitudes toward their children. Therefore, it can be concluded that psychological characteristics such as mothers' face sensitivity and maladaptive perfectionism significantly impact parenting attitudes. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of mothers' psychological characteristics and provide foundational data for the development of counseling and educational programs, as well as related scales that support parental growth through self-reflection.
