박완서 소설의 진리발화적 서사방식 고찰

박완서는 6·25전쟁의 상처를 반복적으로 서사화한 작가 중 한 사람이다. ‘오빠의 죽음’ 모티브의 반복은 가족의 내밀한 상처로 밀봉될 수 있는 차원에 나아가, 역사화를 통한 기억하기의 과정을 증명하고 있다. 본고는 작가의 반복적 창작 의지의 성격을 규명할 필요성을 느끼고, 반복을 통한 서사화를 추동하는 작가의 서술 의지가 언어를 주조하는 고문실의 특징을 지님을 증명하고자 하였다. 소설로 드러나는 모티브의 반복과 변주는 진리를 드러내는 효과를 창출하고 있으며 이 역시 작가의 창작 의지와 관련이 있음을 살폈다. 이에 박완서 소설의 서술 기법이 진리발화적 특성을 지닌다고 할 수 있는 바, 소설에 나타난 모티브의 반복 과정은 작가의 충실성의 지위 또한 드러내게 된다. 각기 다른 작품들은 서로의 대상에 영향을 주고받으며 ‘순수 차이’를 형성하게 되고, 과거의 역사는 반복을 통해 새로운 대상의 지위를 획득하게 되는 의미를 형성하고 있다. 반복적으로 모티브를 변주하는 작가의 서술 의지는 과거를 재현하고 복수로서의 글쓰기를 위한 과정의 의미만을 담보하지 않는다. 그의 소설화 작업은 상실된 대상을 복원하기 위한 장의 의미에서 확장되어 소설화를 통해 상실을 반복하는 작업인 것이다. 그 결과 상처를 해부적으로 들여다보고 의미화 하는 창작 과정을 통해 작가는 윤리적 지위 또한 형성할 수 있음을 살펴보았다. 소설은 언어 주조를 바탕으로 한 매체라는 점에서 작가의 창조적 상상력을 엿볼 수 있는 도구이기도 하다. 반복적으로 상처를 꺼내어 변주, 변형하는 박완서의 서사과정은 진리를 발화하는 단계에서 진리 스스로 말하는 단계로의 이행 또한 보여주고 있음을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
Park Wan-Seo is one of the authors who repeatedly narrated trauma of Korean War. Based on her motif of ‘brother’s dat’, she verified the process of remembering her family’s trauma through history. Thus, there is a need to confirm the intention of author to create repeatedly. This paper focused on the process of author’s narrative intention that activates narration through repetition implemented based on principle like torture cell that casts literature. Repetition and variation of motif through novel is as effective as truth narrating by itself, and it is related to will to create of an author. Park’s novel has truth-speech narrative characteristics. Repetition of motif in novel indicates the status of author’s loyalty. Each of her novels affect one another and forms ‘pure difference’ and builds up significance by obtaining the status of new subject through repeating the past history. Author’s narrative intention that utilized repetition and variation does not only contain significance of writing to reenact the past and avenge. Her novel writing is a work of repeating the loss through novel by expanding the significance of recovering the lost subject. Through creation process of signifying and dissecting the trauma, the author forms ethical status. As novel is a media based on creating language, it is a tool that indicates creative imagination of author. Park’s narration that variate the trauma repeatedly is an implementation of truth speaking by itself by speaking about the truth.
