Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the literature on peer- mediated interventions for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in inclusive education settings and provide implications for future research. For this purpose, 13 articles published between 2011 and 2020(1 domestic and 12 foreign articles) were identified and analyzed in terms of research trends and peer-mediated intervention characteristics. As a result, the majority of studies used single-case research designs. The interventions were conducted in various settings such as self-contained classrooms and playgrounds during lunch. The effect size of the intervention was analyzed using the percentage of non-overlapping data(PND) and the result indicated that there was a significant intervention effect on students with ASD across school levels along with social interaction and social communication. The most frequently used peer training component was modeling and the most frequently used as a peer intervention behavior component was prompting. A number of studies employed different intervention components together. Based on the findings, the implications were discussed for future research in the field of Korean special education.
