Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the play experience and play support strategies of children with ASD(Autism Spectrum Disorder) during free play time during the day. For this purpose, photovoice research was conducted. The researcher directly conducted in-depth interviews with 8 early childhood special education teachers. They had at least 6 years of experience teaching children with ASD. Research participants observed play during free play time and took pictures of specific scenes. Afterwards, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with the participants focusing on the contents related to photography. For the interview content, a serial comparative analysis method was used. The results of the study consisted of 3 core themes and 16 sub-themes. The core themes were 1) play characteristics for children with ASD, 2) difficulties in supporting play for children with ASD, 3) plans to support play for children with ASD. Based on these results, the play characteristics of children with ASD, ways to support play participation, and the dynamic role of teachers were discussed.
