Abstract
Itismythesisinthispaperthatweshouldreexamineandreevaluatethe3essentialconditionsforapositivepatientinterview whichCarlR.RogerssettledandtheempathicListeningwhichhasbeencalledactivelistening.Thecrucialelementsarecongruence,acceptance,empathy.Listening with congruence,acceptance,empathy isfoundationalto acaring doctor-patientrelationship.Thistypeoflistening andinteractionbetweendoctorandpatienthelpstotrustinmedicalencountersandhelpstoenhanceheathoutcomes.ThemosteffectivewaytocheckifIhavebeenlisteningeffectivelyistoexpresstomyclientinmyownwordswhatIfeelhehasbeensaying.Thisincludesboththeverbalcontentandthefeelingsthatlayjustbelow thesurfaceofhisverbalstatements.The3keyskillsofempathiclisteningfollow:1)attending,2)understanding,3)responding.Theselisteningskillsenablephysicianstoimprovepatients'understandingoftheirillnesses,improvepatientadherencetotreatmentregimensandusetimeefficiently.
