대순진리회 기도의례의 종교적 상징성에 관한 연구

대순진리회는 그 고유의 종교적 목적을 달성하기 위한 방법으로서 하나의 분명한 실천체계를 지니며, 이는 종교 내에서의 헌신과 사회적 봉사로 나타난다. 특히 종교 연구의 한 분과로서 자리 잡고 있는 의례적인 측면은 대순진리회 내에서도 중요한 의미를 지니고 있으며, 이에 대한 이해는 대순진리회 신앙의 본질과도 맞닿아 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 고에서는 종교의례의 가장 보편적인 것으로 여겨지는 기도의례에 주목하고, 대순진리회에 있어서 그 현상과 종교적 상징성을 논하고자 한다. 기도절차에서 법배는 인존사상을 상징적으로 보여주는 주요한 동작이다. 천지의 모든 권위와 기운을 인간이 다 거두며, 나아가 천지의 신명을 거느리고 우주의 주인이 된다는 것으로 인간의 가치를 극대화하여 표현하고 있다. 인존사상은 대순진리회 인간관의 핵심이라고 할 수 있다. 기도에서의 송주절차는 한편으로 대순진리회의 신관을 여실히 보여주는 대목이기도 하다. 즉 신의 이름을 소리 내어 불러서 신과 마주한 뒤 기도하는 사람의 소망을 신에게 직접적으로 요청하는 모습은 신과 인간의 밀접한 관계를 보여주기 때문이다. 기도에서 갑일과 기일을 중요시 여긴다는 것은 음양이 서로 교류하는 과정에서 오행의 성질로서 토(土)의 특성을 중시하고, 이러한 토(土)의 본성과 이념에 부합하고자 한다는 데서 상징성을 찾을 수 있다. 기도시간에 있어서도 특별히 진․술․축․미(辰戌丑未)시를 중시하는 것은 이 시간대가 토(土)의 기운에 해당하기 때문이다. 오행에서 토(土)의 덕성은 조화와 새로운 창조를 위한 이념에 부합하고 있으며 후천으로의 개벽을 위한 작용을 하는 것으로 이해된다. 즉 조화와 개벽의 이념을 담고 있는 토(土)의 덕성을 실현하고 후천의 선경을 지향하는 대순진리회의 목적을 달성하기 위해 오늘날의 기도의례가 행해지고 있다.
Abstract
Daesoonjinjihwoe has a distinctive practice system to achieve the religious purpose, which is shown as the dedication in the religion and the services in the society. The rituals aspect, which becomes an important part in the religious study, has important meaning in Daesoonjinrihwoe, whose understanding is led to the essence of the religion. This article pays attention to prayer rituals which is considered as the most universal in religious ritual, and tries to discuss the phenomenon and its religious symbolism. Beopbae in the prayer procedure is the major action symbolically showing the ideology of Iinjon. It expresses human value maximizing it as it has all the authorities and energies in heaven and earth, leads all the gods in heaven and earth and becomes the owner of the universe. Injon is the core doctrine in the view of humans. The chanting procedure in the prayer shows the vision of Daesoonjinrihwoe on God. As we call the names of the gods and face them before making a request to them, it shows the close relationship between gods and human beings. Placing importance on Gabil and Giil means we place importance on the characteristics of Earth (土) in the course of Yin and Yang exchange. We can find the symbolism in that we try to comply with the nature and ideology of Earth (土). The reason why we place special importance on Jin, Sul, Chuk and Mi (辰戌丑未) hours is because they fall under the energy of Earth (土). The virtue of Earth (土) in five elements complies with the ideology for harmony and new creation and is understood as the action for the great transformation. In other words, we perform prayers to achieve the goal of Daesoonjinrihoe to realize the virtue of Earth containing the harmony and creation and to orient for the paradise on earth of Later World.
