초록

Except for the cases that have been murdered by poison or killing tools, the causes in the four phases of life could be found by ingesting foods, chronic diseases due to congenital genes, various illnesses acquired by environmental influences and excessive stresses, and adult diseases through inappropriate sex life. These symptoms were one of the most common Joseon kings’ diseases. However, why did some kings live longer or live shorter? This study starts from this question. The study found that the death causes of kings were lifestyle habits that harm their health such as geriatric diseases, complicationsand various illnesses to shorten longevity which result from oily foods, sensual pleasures and the reduction of the resistance by lack of exercise. Most of the Joseon kings suffered from both a lot of work and strengthening their governing power, and it brought them a plenty of mental stresses with lack of exercise. These mental fatigues increased appetite for greasy food to cause disease, and then too much sexual solicitation of concubines was followed with fullness. Thus all the stresses could end up with overeating and too much intercourse to death.
