Abstract
This study aims to update the friction coefficients of vehicles equipped with mandatory ABS and establish the friction coefficient data for electric vehicles, which have previously lacked such data, through actual vehicle emergency braking tests. For this purpose, the vehicles were categorized into sedans, recreational vehicles (RVs), and electric vehicles. The emergency braking tests were conducted on both dry and wet road surfaces. Outliers from the collected friction coefficient data were removed during data pre-processing. A Welch’s t-test was conducted to identify the differences in friction coefficients between vehicle types. The Welch’s t-test results indicated that, on dry road surfaces, there was no significant difference in friction coefficients between sedans and electric vehicles; however, a statistically significant difference was found between RVs and electric vehicles. On wet road surfaces, no significant difference in friction coefficients was observed among sedans, RVs, and electric vehicles. Therefore, this study presents friction coefficients of 0.93 for sedans and electric vehicles and 0.90 for RVs on dry road surfaces, while on wet road surfaces, the friction coefficient for all three vehicle types is 0.73.
